#WCW: Actress & writer Malin Barr
Women crushes, we all have them. To inspire you, we use our Wednesdays to interview women we admire and share their amazing stories with you. This week we're crushing on Malin Barr, a Swedish actress & writer who moved to New York about four years ago.
It's a Sunday afternoon in New York and the snow is still melting. Malin Barr is preparing for her outdoor shoot the next day. She will be filming a pilot for a show set in the 70's, which means short skirts and cute little shoes. While she is a little worried about the temperature, she is mostly just focused on getting her part right.
She applied the same focus to her first own short film, Hedda needs Help, which she started writing a little over a year ago. By the time that a mutual friend advised her to meet with Lisa Baron, the eventual co-writer and director of the film, Malin had already written four or five drafts of the film. "I send her the script that same night and she read it and said that she loved it and wanted to work with me on it." She adds that she doesn't want to sound cheesy, but that she could not have done it without Lisa. She talked to us about the process of writing, working with a mostly female crew and playing a character that she created herself.
