Evan Rachel Wood #ImHereToTellYouThatIAmAfraid
As the allegations against Harvey Weinstein keep piling up and the conversation about sexism in the film industry has become unavoidable, we can't stay silent. As women who work in film, we've been horrified by the stories that have come out recently, but unfortunately not surprised. To the women who are coming forward, we'd like to say that we think you are unbelievably courageous. And since it's hard to find the right words to speak about this, we'd like to share the words of actress Rachel Evan Wood.
Last year she was brave enough to share with the world that she too is a survivor of sexual assault. But she hasn't named names yet. “Why not?” Is a question that people have asked time and time again and Wood responds with courageous vulnerability. In this video Wood admits that she is afraid and addresses the complex challenges faced by victims. She explains that it's not easy to revisit the traumatic incident and how hard of a fight it would be against the powerful people who did this to her. If there's anything to take away from this, it's that victims are never to blame and that we must understand and support them. We're here, and we stand with you.
